Since I enjoy the pleasant luxury of ignoring DUP's posts, I can only suppose how this "thin issue" discussion began. I didn't notice the page count, and so far I've been too busy to give much attention to this month's content, but I couldn't be happier with what I have given attention to.
The letters always come first for me. I found myself making mental notes structuring a rebuttal to Rick Lee's somewhat disjointed comments on Larry Borden's "Truth vs. Beauty" only to forget them on seeing that Mr. Borden had done the job for me. Good show.
As I left the letters, it was with a little feeling of guilt. It seems Michael Fremer has become everyone's whipping boy, and I recalled with regret that I once took him to task for a column devoted to automobile systems. I don't think that letter was printed in the magazine, but it was forwarded to Mike, and he and I exchanged a couple of e-mails and resolved our differences. Serious guy, cordial guy. How about a general moratorium on picking on him every time he deals with something not related to analog.
Beyond the letters, I've only had time for the Smaller Advent coverage, which to me is the best yet in an excellent series devoted to vintage gear. Im sure thousand of us who followed the travels and offerings of Henry Kloss enjoyed a pair of those little guys, but they were of special importance to me. They were part of the system which helped preserve my sanity immediately following a financially crippling divorce. Later, together with their "Larger" brothers they got involved in my early experiments with surround sound. It wasn't the fault of the speakers that I completely rejected anything more than two channel sound. What fun to think of them again.
The new Silverman recording and "OK We're Rolling" are as yet untouched but looking good. Who knows what else is lurking?
Thin huh? So What.
