Using an SPL meter

Hi All,
I just received new JJ EL34 tubes for my amplifier and now when I turn it on I receive a FIZZING type noise through my left channel. The Volume does not effect the sound and I only have about 14 hours into breakin.
The sound comes about 10 seconds after I power up and goes away completely after about 20 seconds later.
Thoughts?
Thanks,
Don L
Aloha,
My buddy, Big Mike, and I have received final clearance from the spouses for next week's High End show.
We're approved for non-injectable substance abuse - predominantly liquid products of fermentation - and staying up until all hours without parental responsibilities.
So, looking for some like minded fellow forumites for having some of these forum discussions/arguments/expoundifications in person.
How would one use an SPL meter like the digital one put out by Radio Shack? For example, what test CD is best for plotting on a spreadsheet and so forth? What would be the x and y axis of a line graph?
Also, the ATI analog meter featured in Stereophile has the same specs as the RS digital meter but costs $20 more than the RS model. An analog meter seems confusing when the digital will just maintain a memory of measurement and averages. It just seems like something that would keep me busy with my bi-polar disorder and all.
