I'm using a Behringer EQ that has an internal pink noise generator and self adjusts its settings for frequency response. Disregarding views for or against this setup, what do you recommend? Setting the left and right channels individually, which would maybe would optimize each speakers setting but not take into account the interaction of two speakers together. Or play both channels together and set the EQ right and left channels the same and hope that it all averages out?

I'm trying to hook up my laptop (Sony Vaio) to my stereo receiver (Harman/Kardon 3480--2 channel) in order to play the computer's music library on some nice JBL Hls speakers, and have run into a bit of a problem. I've got the laptop on one of those docking stations, which is supplied with a 'optical out' connections. The problem is that (to the best of my knowledge) the receiver does not have a optical in. To maker matters worse, I'm completely in the dark when it comes to this 'optical' audio business.
Can I mix my stereo speakers with a new Pioneer Elite for both 2 and 5-way audio?
I have decent stereo speakers and like my music that way. My receiver died and I am considering a Yamaha RXV659 to replace it. I just bought a Pioneer Elite 930HD which comes with attached speakers. I would like to listen to Stereo on my old speakers and 5-channel audio when watching movies. Is this possible?

Wooden floor is alive, Coupling, Decoupling the speakers or.....?
Hello:
I have recently moved to new apartment and now face a strange problem. The building is very old and wooden floor is too alive. If I am walking in one corner of apartment the vibration from steps can be felt in other corner. Banging the floor with foot gives you a sense that furniture and fixture is going down. I have installed padding and carpet to calm down the footfalls.
