my reciever is rejecting my speakers!

hello,

this is probably a completly assinine question, but here it goes. i just bought some event 20/20 v2 passive moniter speakers, and when i hooked them up to my reciever and gave a listen they worked fine until i turned the volume up on my reciever (it was set to very low) and as soon as i did, my reciever flashed "overload" a few times then shut itself off.

Tube Amp Question

Forums

I know very little about tubes. My question is about tube rolling. In general, are older NOS tubes able to handle higher plate voltage than most modern tubes? In setting the idle bias with only a multimeter and bias pots, assuming that the answer to my first question is yes, is there any general rule of thumb on say 6BQ5/EL84 Telefunkens, Mullards, RCA and the like?

Newbie wants a new sub....

Forums

Hi guys,

I am looking for a new sub to match up with my Ruark Preludes, a British 2-way floorstander with 6.5 mid-woofer and dome tweeter. Currently there are three contending companies.

1. REL-The R-205, the Q108E, and the Britannia B3. (though this one may be beyond my budget currently) I've heard the R-205 and was impressed, just leary of the small cabinet size.

2. Martin Logan- The Abyss, the Grotto and maybe the Depth. I haven't auditioned these yet.

Tipped off by Stereophile reader David Goodwin, I recently visited the San Francisco Airport Museum's beautifully thought-out and executed exhibit The History of Audio: The Engineering of Sound. Installed to coincide with the 121st convention of the Audio Engineering Society, held at San Francisco's Moscone Center October 5–8, the exhibit runs through May 2007 in the North Connect Gallery of the airport's Terminal 3 (footnote 1).
