timing-educate me

Recently I was introduced to a rather large Naim system at a home concert. The owner of the home/system introduced me to the Naim rep who happened to be attending who kindly gave me the tour explaining all the design attributes of the line. Now most of it made sense except for the claim as to enhanced timing resolution. He stated that equipment of lessor caliber can have timing accuracies, changing the timing relationships between the different instruments in a recording.

A Big Hunk o' Love

A Big Hunk o' Love

I got wishbone in my pocket
I got a rabbit's foot 'round my wrist
You know I'd have all the things these lucky charms could bring
If you'd give me just one sweet kiss, rowr, rowr, rowr
Baby, I ain't askin' much of you
Just a big-a big-a hunk o' love will do.

A Narrative History of the Light Bulb

A Narrative History of the Light Bulb

"While in residence at the Baltimore Museum of Industry during the last two years, Catherine Wagner was given access to their 50,000+ collection of historic light bulbs, one of the premier collections of vintage and antique light bulbs in the United States, with lights dating from the early 19th century. The resulting series of photographs titled A Narrative History of the Light Bulb embodies both sculptural installation and photography. Wagner creates arrangements of bulbs that she then photographs with an 8 by 10 view camera in order to record the glass enclosures and the delicate filaments in stunning detail. Wagner’s work has long been noted for its investigation of the dissemination of knowledge and the construction of culture and these new works follow in her trajectory of providing access to the close scrutiny of scientific objects."

No error correction needed?

Me thinks the smoke and BS is becoming a bit much. Read this descrition of this weeks breakthrough in digital playback. It's so fine, it needs no error correction!!! Huh? then it's not palying anything of teh SACD/CD standards is it? Cus teh error correction is part of the standards from Philips. I thinks they need to rewrite their copy, cus' they is talking some real crap now. Last week the Marantz was THE playback of teh moment. Now it's this one.

Cat hair in Amplifier

My last request for help was graciously answered, and now I need to know the best or safest way to get cat hair, dander, and probably other dust out of the inside of my receiver. The nearest authorized service dealer is hundreds of miles away, and I'll ship if that's the best option. I work out of town during the week, so I can't easily look to see if I'm still in the warranty period (you know, opening the cover and voiding the warranty . . .). The unit is about 6 years old.

Japanese imports better??

While browsing the Stones CD collection at my local HMV, I noticed that a lot of them are available as Japanese digipack imports, on the ABKO label
the series is called 'Rolling Stones in the 60's.
http://www.universalmusicworld.jp/stones/

The price is what got me, 3-5X the domestic! Outrageous!
I asked a clerk if there was a difference in audio quality, and she said , yes, the Japanese imports are usually mastered at 24 bits while the domestic are mastered at 16 bits??
