Newbie seeks guidance and input...

I am starting to build my system from the ground up, starting with the speakers. I do not have any components to date. I am trying to decide between the Monitor Audio Silver Series and Paradigm Monitor Series. The MA will consist of RS8 or RS6, RSLCR and RSFX(2). The Paradigm will consist of Monitor 9 or 7, CC390 and ADP390(2). Thoughts, suggestions, alternatives? Thanks for your assistance.

Does the brand of CD-R make a difference?

I'm wondering whether the brand and/or formulation of CD-R makes any audible difference when copying Redbook CD data from a computer hard drive. I'd be particularly interested in any studies showing differences in the recorded data, or blind tests showing an audible difference. In my minimal, sighted listening tests, I've never noticed a difference in sound between the original CD and the CD-R copy, except when there's an obvious, drastic problem with the burn.

Thanks.

Stereophile's Recordings of the Month

<I>Stereophile</I> started publishing its "<A HREF="http://www.stereophile.com/recordingofthemonth/">Recording of the Month</A>" feature in its December 1992 issue, with the late Igor Kipnis's <A HREF="http://www.stereophile.com/recordingofthemonth/1292rotm/">rave review</A> of Keith Jarrett performing Shostakovich's 24 Preludes and Fugues.

Naxos Disks

I have found a local shop which sells most of the Naxos catalogue currently available. I am aware that CDs in the Naxos catalogue vary substantially in quality. My preferred (classical) repertoire is from the late-classical through to the end of the romantic period (although I am more than willing to try some of the excellent music outside this period). I am looking for recommendations (stating both pieces played and disk numbers if possible) of excellent Naxos recordings. I know Todd has posted a number of excellent in-depth reviews on these forums.

Sub $500 System Redux

Hey everyone, I'm a poor college student going to school near Philadelphia, and I'd like to put together my first setup. About a year ago I ditched my Bose QuietComforts for a pair of Grado SR60s, which have been amazing. I'd like to do the same thing with my speakers, but I can only spend about $500.

From what I've gleaned from Stereophile's budget component reviews and the archives of this forum, both the PSB Alpha B1s and the Paradigm Atoms are good choices for bookshelf speakers.

Super T + PSB Alpha B1

I got a new headphone setup with k701 through E-MU 0404 USB with some headphone amps i borrowed(i haven't decided which one i want to buy). Although I like the headphones better than speakers, I still want a budget speaker sysetm.
I've been doing some reading, and I was thinking of the Super T power amp and PSB Alpha B1 hooked up to my e-mu 0404 USB.

The question is, am I missing something in that chain? and is super T power amp enough for that speaker? There are so many different numbers and I'm confused (especially the watt thing)
