Suggestions on building a mac-based 2.1 bedroom system

Hey all, this is my first post on this forum after reading through it for several months.

Basically, I am a 22-year old student/part time worker at a BB/Magnolia store and am looking to build a 2.1 system in my bedroom until I graduate and move into a modest sized apartment as I pursue further education. I'm on a budget but I am willing to spend a few more bucks to get it done right rather than compromise.

Will a Home Server Be Under Your Christmas Tree?

At CES 2007, Bill Gates announced that Microsoft was developing a …; Home Server, saying, "As computers and digital media become more and more central to family life, we need better ways to organize, share, and protect digital content and information at home. Windows Home Server makes it easy for families to save, protect and access digital memories and experiences, so they can focus on using technology to organize their day-to-day lives, explore their interests, and share their memories with the people they care about."

spiltters - please help

Hello,

Please tell me - does the use of RCA splitters lower the sound quality at all? I am considering using them in 2 places - 1) My 6 channel McIntosh amp - if I use splitters on 4 channels, I can bypass my pre-amp and go straight from my source (2 channels RCA) to my amp (which has 6 channels RCA) - would I lose any sound quality? and 2) if I bypass my pre-amp as mentioned above, I will only have one input left available on my Sonos - so what if I use splitters and feed my satellite receiver and my computers output into splitters to share one input? Would I lose any quality?

Newbie seeks guidance and input...

I am starting to build my system from the ground up, starting with the speakers. I do not have any components to date. I am trying to decide between the Monitor Audio Silver Series and Paradigm Monitor Series. The MA will consist of RS8 or RS6, RSLCR and RSFX(2). The Paradigm will consist of Monitor 9 or 7, CC390 and ADP390(2). Thoughts, suggestions, alternatives? Thanks for your assistance.

Does the brand of CD-R make a difference?

I'm wondering whether the brand and/or formulation of CD-R makes any audible difference when copying Redbook CD data from a computer hard drive. I'd be particularly interested in any studies showing differences in the recorded data, or blind tests showing an audible difference. In my minimal, sighted listening tests, I've never noticed a difference in sound between the original CD and the CD-R copy, except when there's an obvious, drastic problem with the burn.

Thanks.
