Wadia Announces Launch of iPod Dock with S/PDIF Output

Wadia Digital, Inc. announced that it will debut the $349 iTransport iPod dock in Las Vegas at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) January 7, 2008. Certified by Apple as "Made for iPod®," the iTransport bypasses the iPod's internal D/A conversion to output an S/PDIF signal, "providing CD-quality resolution from full-resolution from file formats such as .WAV and [Apple Lossless]."

Almost Set on the Amp!

Hey, guys. It's been a blast, this whole process of trying to set up my 1st system, especially this sharing on the Stereophile forum & getting feedback and valuable opinion from y'all. As for the amp, I think I'm close to jumping on the Pathos Classic MKIII, as there's a used one in Audiogon. Perhaps I should audition more amps (i.e. Plinius), but I just can't forget the sound I heard yesterday, and I don't know if there's any better indicator on whether or not it's the "right" amp for me than that...

Stereo & the Soundstage Page 2

The accuracy of a hi-fi system's "soundstage" reproduction seems to be of paramount importance these days, just as a component must now have "transparency" to possess hi-fi righteousness. If the system in which that component is used doesn't give good soundstage, then the system's owner has definitely fallen by the wayside. But what defines a good soundstage? Stereo imaging must have something to do with it, I hear you all cry. (I would have said stereo imagery until Larry Archibald pointed out that imagery has far less to do with hi-fi than with good writing, something I'm sure we agree has no place in a hi-fi magazine.) OK, what defines good stereo imaging?

Hybrid Integrated amps

Forums

Hi. I auditioned Pathos Classic Mk III yesterday and really liked what I heard (on Devore Gibbons). I even preferred it to VTL IT-85 in some music (i.e. indie rock & electronica, although VTL was just toooo good on solo piano & vocals).

So: do you have any other hybrid integrateds to recommend for me? I feel uneasy going with the Pathos w/o other points of reference. I hear marvelous things about Vincent SV236, for example. So please please please flood this thread w/ recommendations and strong opinions on this matter. I'd be thrilled.
