I have Nautilus 804s, some Polk outdoor patio speakers on a zone 2, a Harmon Kardon DVD/CD/SACD player, Charter digital cable (not HD), a VCR, IPOD/dock and 30-inch standard tube TV. My 75 Watt, 7.1 channel Harmon Kardon AV 635 receiver will be removed from service due to a processor malfunction. Listening room is about 12x20 feet with speakers along the wide wall facing a 9-foot leather couch and 6-foot leather coffee table, on a wood laminate/concrete slab floor mostly covered by large area rug, with 12 feet of filled book shelves along one short end of the room.
I recently obtained "Billy The Kid/Grand Canyon Suite", Morton Gould and "The Nutcracker", Antal Dorati and "Pictures At An Exhibition", Janus/Dorati. I'm not an expert on classical, but have an ever-expanding collection. I know these are considered old warhorses, but I was really impressed with the 3 channel sound quality of these older recordings/remasters.
Any thoughts, especially on other recommended titles from this Mercury issue?

Has anyone seen cable elevators used at live events or recording sessions when they actually make the music you play back and now the wire on teh floor matters? How come it didn't matter whan they where making teh original recordings? Oh, I guess these studios don't understand how wire vibrates, causing electrons to get confused and loose their direction? Do these cable elevators take you to the looney ward at teh top of the looney pile? Is it technically an "elevator" not a mere support post, pole?
Took John Marks always excellent advise and took a PS1 my wife found for our son on Free-Cycle, which he is not using, down to the family room. I use a Pioneer Elite HT receiver in 2-channel only for watching some movies on a older Sony std def 27" TV. I have a pair of older AR 15s in excellent shape being driven by the Pioneer.
99% of audiophiles accept expensive cables?!!!! Come on Jason, where did you come up with that number? And yes, when I first seen the AMEX commercial, it did make me smile. I have purchased stuff from MD over the years. But now that you explained that it was a "set", no wonder it looked kinda too dressy, cus' I always thought it was a warehouse. To be fair they really should do an Acoustic Sounds commercial also. I have prefered Acoustic Sounds more and more , why? Because what Chad K. has done with his recording studio, in the refurbed church is really, really impressive.
