Beginner needs some help

Hi

Im a total rock music fan but lately ive been listening to some different genres of music.

Anyways ive been listening to a SACD of Pictures at an Exhibition ( for rock fans this is well known from ELP ).

I was really impressed with the scale and grandeur of this peice of music ( no jokes about my inexperience please !! ) and would appreciate some recommedations of similar large scale orchestral peices.

Thanks

Alan

Tube Rolling?

I have a Cayin A-50T tubed amp. I have really enjoyed it so far, and have spent some time reading reviews on-line. Many state that "once I replaced the tubes with xxxxx it sounded fantastic". I have also heard of rolling tubes.

So, is rolling tubes the same as replacing tubes? If so, is this just a matter of taste or are there really significant upgrades I can make here? I am new to this, but I think what I have sounds really good now - but I wouldn't mind experimenting.

Advice / tube recommendations?

Best travel package

Hi

As part of my job I have to make frequent worldwide flights. As anyone who does this regularly will tell you its far from glamourous and is very wearing on the body and mind.

Anyways things are good at the moment and im looking to treat myself to the best reasonable travel package. Im thinking classic IPOD, Bithead amp and either a good earphone or a good closed headphone. Obviously I cant use a good open headphone because of the noise polution, im not overly concerned about noise cancelling but if I do end up with noise cancelling id liek a talk through feature.

Not enough POWER, according to JV's favorite

McIntosh producing that "CHEAP" watts? hmmm, how come McIntosh says POWER is KEY for realistic reproduction. JV loves 40 McIntosh watts, 2kW is even better!!! But i don't think it takes 3 modules to do it, that's for sure. Think of all teh added components degrading teh sound, as JV said, when he decided too many output devices in high powered amps, cause signal issues, holy moly, now that's BIZZARE. How else do you up the capaicty? JV, what do you think about McIntosh HIGH POWER? are they wrong too?

Flying Under The Radar

Forums

In spite of my efforts the various Music sections of this forum continue to remain almost completely dead. However, following the sage advice of Thomas H. Palmer as put forth in the 1840 Teacher's Manual "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again", I'm going to keep on posting and hope that the attentions of my fellow forum members will not be far behind.

Brystone alternatives?

Hey, I'm relatively new to this whole world, as am actually an engineer on the recording side of things, and only today for the first time ordered passive monitors for my home setup (most studio monitors are active these days). In fact power amps I know little about as they're not found often nor a critical part of studio recording, mostly relegated to the live sound environment.
