In the final article of the current(?) Stereophile, the columnist mentions that he's unwilling to follow the current common wisdom and sell his CDs after ripping them, because he likes the feeling of having them.

Disturbingly there is no mention of the legality and ethics of the situation.

I was similarly disturbed when the response to an earlier letter to the editor did not mention the ethics and legality of the practice (someone ripped and sold their CDs, and then their drive crashed - causing the letter writer substantial angst).

I know that Robert Baird did not like it so much (http://blog.stereophile.com/musicroom/robertbaird/022508loud/) but I thought Jonny Greenwood's score for There Will Be Blood was impressively well done. Sure you can say that he's a Radiohead guitarist ripping off classical composers, but I thought it was all very smartly done & greatly added to the movie.

My wife and I are moving from a 450 sq foot condo to a real house and I am finally indulging a dream to get a real hi fi audio system. Based on reviews here and there, I've decided to center it around the RR 2150. For speakers and cds, here is where I am at right now:

For a new start lets talk here. This meanders a bit but stay with me please. For several years in the past, the Dallas District Attornys have been getting 100% conviction rates. All of the sudden DNA testing begins to prove, in case after case, that the convicted and sentenced to death, are innocent. Even those who were convicted by eyewitnesses. They percieved the killer before them, but it just wasn't so.

I've told this first story before, but...

When my wife and I started dating, she asked about the kinds of music I liked, and I replied in some way that indicated a clear disdain for "country" music.

The moment passed, and our life together proceeded, until one day, after we'd been living together for a while, she informed me, "You know, for a guy who doesn't like country music, you sure listen to alot of it."

I recently bought an ONKYO TX-SR505 receiver and i would like to buy a set of inexpensive speakers (less than $200/pair).
Currently i have a set of 5.1 cheap sony speakers.
I am thinking of replacing the 3 front speakers and possibly the subwoofer.
After all I do not care that much about movies.Mainly listening to music (Jazz and rock).
I tried the Paradigm Atoms and I was blown by the clear/deep sound they produce.
Problems is the local dealer sells them for $300 a pair. Moreover, I can not find them online.

I must bring everyone's attention to a wondrous happening in the "Acoustic effects and size matters thread"; it has been joined by Audio Gods with mind-boggling super-powers. I'm speculating that May Belt, the high priestess of audio quackery, invited them along. Jan has been beseeching his own audio god, JA, to grace the thread with his omnipotence but appears to be coping with his disappointment and is getting along well with the uber-beings that have manifested themselves.

I am trying to find the brand and model number of an unusual looking speaker system I recall seeing in early/mid-1970s. The speaker looked like the B&O RL-140 from the mid-1980s, namely it was a shaped like a panel about 80-100cm wide and 80-100cm tall and maybe 20cm deep. It was mounted in a similar way to the B&O RL-140, although sitting much higher from the floor, and I think its curvature was concave (or flat), rather than convex as in the B&O (google for B&O RL-140 to see more pictures). The speaker was NOT electrostatic. Any ideas?

First things first i am not an audiophile..and i have some questions
can anyone tell me about the significance in using bowl shaped cans on headphones compared to the thin ones?
and is unbiased drivers common among headphones having an inline remote? and if yes what causes it?
