Hello everyone. As I have indicated on my previous turntable discussions I am returning to the audio world and trying to piece together a nice system that will deliver a soundstage my maggies will gladly reproduce. I know I am preaching to the choir, however, I am going to need some power to deliver to the maggies.
What is the best stand alone option for converting LPs to digital format nowadays? I can't bring my turntable and records to the office, so I'm stuck with the iPod.
I'd like to just be able to record straight to a hard drive and then mess with everything later. I don't have a desktop computer (and don't want one) so any soundcard I have is going to sub-par - so I'd rather not have to use it at all.
I listen to a lot of music and solidly believe that a lot of very expensive audio gear really does produce audibly superior sound. I have never had the pleasure of listening to a real high end system, the $50K or more amplifier, the $40K speakers, $30K CD player or turntable, $5K speaker wires or interconnects, exotic tweaks, and wierd esoteric odds and ends, but I have heared $10K systems put together well and can say with some conviction that they sound vastly better than the Best Buy audio system or, God help us, some Ipod MP3 system.
Hi...Obviously I'm brand new at this so...I have a big learning curve... Eventually I'd love to have the perfect home theater system...but until that happens I will have to make do.
I need some help with connections or if not real connection then possible work-arounds.
I got on a FreeCycle board in MN, a very nice Fisher stereo component system.
I have the following:
CA-871 Stereo Amplifier
CR-W870 Double Cassette Player
FM-871 AM/FM Stereo Synthesizer Tuner
EQ-867 Graphic Equalizer
AD-870 or AD-875A Digital Compact Disc Player
I was thinking of getting a Shanling MC30 for my bedroom (the room is very small) and was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on it and on what speakers to go with. I do not want to spend over $500.00 for the speakers since the unit itself is only $1000.00. The catch is they have to be able to be powered by only 3 watts... The Stereophile review of this unit says it can do done but gives no examples. Keep in mind size is an issue so I'm looking for something like the Epos 3. Would they work??? Any help appreciated.
Has anyone heard these? Are they any good?
Thanks
In light of last week's question, it seems appropriate for reader Glenn Bennett to ask: "Let's see how far back we can go. I caught the bug with a Knight reel-to-reel in 1955!" <P> What was the first component (or components) you purchased and what year was it?
Check out teh list of companies that do stuff in audio...quite the list http://www.aes.org/events/125/exhibitors/exhibitors.cfm
