Bits is bits and other audio aphorisms.

I have to admit to thinking that "bits is bits."

Trouble is, I only believe it when they are standing still.

It's when ya try to move those pesky bits from one place to another and get them all to arrive together in real time that the trouble starts.

I also believe the first watt is the most important one and that preamps are more crucial to the signal than amplifiers.

What aphorisms do you stand behind?

But before heading over, Kimmy and I just wanted to sit down and watch a couple episodes of our favorite show, Curb Your Enthusiasm. We got distracted though, as is always the case with my blog entries, where plans change due to interest in more exciting forms of clarity, a better understanding of the world. By this, I'm talking about the new Vizio television my roommate Jason bought. (Hold your horses now! Don't get so riled up. I know this isn't a Home Theater blog, but I'm getting somewhere, kinda.)

Wexler

It’s appropriate that I’d be listening to Irma Thomas’ new R&B record, Simply Grand when I heard that Jerry Wexler had died.

Jerry Wexler was a cool dude, and he listened to McIntosh gear.

Jerry Wexler died.

He's kind of the Ahmet Ertegun of R&B.

He was 91, and died of 'congenital heart disease.'

That was a hell of a 91 year battle!

Link to his article:

Jerry Wexler was a giant in the music industry.

Here's the pic from the clip, check out his gear.

A toast to a great guy.

Speaker Stacking.

Forums

Hola,

The notion of speaker stacking has always intrigued me. In a way, it's a primitive D'Apollito thing for us dopes who tried it in the 70's before an MTM arrangement actually had a name attached to it.

We're going to use a pair of stacked (the model is a secret for now) speakers for T.H.E. in January, too, so it's been on my mind...

Which lead me to wonder if anyone else plays with this sort of arrangement.

Audio shows are where reviewers search out products for possible review. We are always on the lookout—or listenout—for components that transcend the boundaries of the ordinary, that set the pulse racing a little faster. The 2007 Rocky Mountain Audio Fest, held in Denver last October, was the first RMAF I had attended, and among the rooms that impressed me was one featuring components from the Japanese brand Esoteric, which was celebrating its 20th anniversary.
