The March 2009 issues of both Stereophile and The Absolute Sound bring us an article about digitizing vinyl, i.e. converting one's analog LPs in digital files or even CDs. So how well does magazine present the subject and how do they compare...LET'S GET READY TO RUMBLE!!!!
Round one: Background info
Any help is welcome: I live in a small NH town with no home audio stores less than an hour's drive. Visited a couple with sketch and pics of my semi-open floorplan. One guy (seemed very knowledgeable, in biz 20+ years) said Mirage sub-sat. He had nothing else to recommend. They sounded good but far from a thrill. Another guy (also seemed very smart, wasn't on commission, didn't rush at all) showed me 4 different floorstanding pairs. I decided on Thiel CS1.6 with Camb. Audio CD player and Rotel int. amp. He recommended I sleep on it.
Hi, I am looking for some tower speakers that will give me the best bang for my buck ($4000 - $7000 range). From my research, I have found the PSB Synchrony One's and Revel Performa series quite impressive. Anyone have experience with either or both of these models? How do you feel they compare? I understand the PSB Platinum series is a little older - how do they compare to the newer (Cheaper) Synchronys? Also, I am very open to any other ideas.
The review of the YG Acoustics speakers system (and yes, I expect the budget canaries to tweet about the price) has a great mini-interview with the designer.
The guy says he measures, foremost.
If he hears something he doesn't like, he figures there was a problem with his measurements.
In fact, he says he does not 'voice' his loudspeakers.
On top of that, the review talks about how great the speaker sounds.
Hi, setting up my first audio sound system and I am as much confused as excited. My system is primarily for audio, room size is approx 4m by 9m, musical tastes indie, rock, funk. My current dilema is which pair to go for. After digging through the net and listening to various brands at stores, I've decided to go for Swans (even though conventional wisdom says listen before you buy) Now I'm unsure which model of Swans to get, 5.1 or 5.2 How much of a difference in sound etc is there? I can get a pair of new 5.1 for US$370 or the 5.2 for US$692. Thats a big price difference.

Hi all, I'm new to the forums. I need some help with a stereophile audio set up for my new pc, which I'll be using as a source for a 2 channel hifi system, for playing flac and wav (ripped cd's from my collection) audio files.
My PC has an Asus P5N7A mother board with Realtek onboard sound card, which I'd like to skip, and an Optical SPDIF output.
After some searching I selected these configurations, which I deem the most cost effective.
