Landslide

Intern Ariel Bitran sent this around the office today, in an e-mail titled "Crying in My Cubicle."

I have always, always, always loved this song, but of all the many excellent versions, I think this has to be my favorite. Sort of profoundly sad to hear the children sing those great, simple lines:

I've been afraid of changing
Because I've built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
And children get older
I'm getting older, too

But cheer up, Ariel. It's Friday.

Audiophiles and music lovers may be interested in Ripped: How the Wired Generation Revolutionized Music, the new book from music critic and Sound Opinions cohost Greg Kot. The book is being billed as "the first definitive account of the digital music revolution," and takes an appreciative look at a world in which peer-to-peer file sharing and CD burning are commonplace tools. It can be argued that such technologies are not only blessings for independent musicians looking to gain wider audiences, but also gifts to the music lover who cannot get enough.

The KEF Blade

The KEF Blade

At last year's Consumer Electronics Show and Festival Son & Image, British loudspeaker manufacturer KEF caught a lot of eyes and ears with their shimmering, $140,000/pair Muon. Now the company has unveiled the Blade, an artful, sleek, stealthy looking thing, poised to draw similar attention.

how important is your listening chair?

Not talking about it being comfortable, or that it can hold your beer whilst you listen (tho I agree both of them are very important, one far more so than the other!!) but more along the lines of 'is it an overlooked but potentially important part of your listening experience'?

I often notice (when the more important part above is observed fully) that I can tend to slump into the chair more. Yet with that I also feel that the sound can be altered quite a bit (as distinct from the above factor )

Lots of great affordable gear in the June Issue!!!

With reviews/follow ups of the PSB Imagine T & B, Cambridge Audio Dacmagic and the Wadia I Transport... I really have to say that I was impressed with the amount of affordable gear in the June edition. I also loved the very appropriate "As we see it" by Stephen to start the issue... I think it really captured the feelings of many of us aspiring audiophiles and enthusiasts - as nice as it is to read about exotic, limited edition, bankruptcy inducing gear, many of us are also very interested in gateway products/ gear that can be purchased with a bit of disciplined saving...

How much noise should a turntable make?

I bought an entry level Rega a few months back and right away had a problem with it. One channel was bad; fortunately for me, the seller was quite good. They shipped a new tonearm promptly, and then put up with me taking several weeks to return the bad one.

I'm very happy with the unit, except it makes a 'swishing' noise when it runs. It's no huge deal when the volume is turned up, but it's not good at low levels.

Is this an inherent feature of belt drives? How much noise should I expect?

Thanks,
