I'm considering replacing my Fog v3 with the Unico CD. The Cairn is very "musical" and being "in the music" is a good description most of the time. But, I know it places an unusual emphasis on certain parts. This drives me crazy when I "know" a song should sound different, e.g. the rhythm guitar should be further in the background.
I want another CDP with digital inputs and am very happy with my Unico SE integrated, which has put the Unico CD at the top of my list.
I saw the advertisement for HDtracks on the Stereophile Newsletter. I decided to give it a try so I registered on their website. HDtracks sent me a promotional code for 15% off (whoopee do!) my next purchase. Two days later I went to buy a complete album download for $15.99 and the promontional code DID NOT work. I e-mailed customer service. It took them more than 3 days to respond and they basically told me...sorry pal but that promotional code is expired. They did not send me a new promotional code..GREEDY JERKS! That is a horrible way to treat a customer.
I have recently entered the wonderful world of tubes via a PrimaLuna Prologue 1 and am now looking to compliment it with a nice turntable. I am considering the Rega P3-24 (my price range is $1,000). In terms of a suitable phono cartridge for this table, what would those of you in the know suggest/recommend? I don't want to spend more than will be worthwhile given the price of the TT - maybe $100-$150? Also, I've heard that one of the downsides to TT's is that the cartridge only lasts a couple hundred hours before needing to be replaced. Any truth to this?
Thanks!
I liked the review a lot, especially the comparison with the Boulder integrated, which costs a chunk less than the CTH8550, although still pricey. Thought WP handled it well, the high price issue, voicing his preferences conscientiously and without being snarky.
