I am in the market for a good preamplifier, two channel with phono. Budget of around $900. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The DAC chip (or chips or chipset) was (were) not identified in JA's 808.2 review earlier this year. Anyone know what it/they is/are?
E.g. TI PCM1792, Wolfson wm8740, etc.

Hey, I'm on a budget, and want something better than my used Technics Sl-D2 to go into my little desktop A2's. I really enjoy vinyl and want to be able to enjoy it even more. Suggestions? I don't want to spend more than about $400, but would like to spend less.

I have a phono pre-amp (Audiovalve Sunilda) that allows me to switch between MM and MC as well as different resistor and capacitor settings. I would like to experiment with these values for my current cartridge, the high output MC cartridge, the Dynavector 20XH. I have a Rega P5 TT.

Best as I can tell, the MM setting is not affected very much (or at all) by the different resistor or capacitor values (I have it set it on 47K resistor). The MC setting is much louder for obvious reasons, and I am thinking will vary with different resistor or capacitor values.
