I agree with Paul Messenger's comments on the reason for the failure of the SACD format but I must note, another obvious reason.
I, after a good bit of saving, bought a Sony SACD unit when the price dropped below $1000. I also promptly bought a half dozen disks...ALL well recorded dross by 3rd rate artists.
Every single SACD disk I bought over the next 6 months was the same...
I gave up and gladly went back to CD. I realize much has changed over the last decade but it is far too late to save that format.
I generally hate jazz....but I am a big recording equipment nerd and can of course recognize talent..
this one is great. all analogue! great stuff..
Anyone else notice that this is the second power amp/int amp from Audio Research that has had a "hiccup" when tested by JA? When the Ref amp was tested for the last review (that the reviewer bought I may add) there were some poor measurments that Audio Research blamed on a tube. Now this unit has issues requiring some work. Are the units reviewed "new off the line" or are they units that go from reviewer to reviewer? To question Audio Research's ability to make a product of outstanding sonic quality is ridiculous.

Cerwin-Vega has the dubious honor of having their loudspeakers causing an audio journalist literally to throw up. It was at a UK Show dem in 1977. The company played the music so loud, and with such stomach-churning low frequencies, that one writer in the room reacted in the manner described.
