So from what I have gathered in past readings on the topic of Jitter it has been my understanding (or misunderstanding)that Jitter occurs during the D/A conversion process and not before. It has also been my understanding that this phenomena is mainly the result of differences in timing between the source signal and the DAC.
Assuming this is correct, is there anything that can be done prior to the D/A conversion process (ie..signal is still in the digital realm or just 1's & 0's) that can enhance sound quality besides the use of a Word Clock?
I have a Musical Fidelity Elktra E20 Preamp, and lately it has been acting very strange. Every so often, at random, the mute will go off, or the selector switch will change inputs, or the volume will change. The remote broke ages ago and is out of the picture, I have no idea what would cause this behavior and was wondering if anyone might have any ideas.
Did the unit that Michael Fremer review go to anyone else? The reason I asked is Mr. Fremer's "cool" comments about the DX-5 as a SACD player. Ayre's response seemed to infer that it was not set up through the menu system correctly. Since Ayre products seldom get less than a stellar review in Stereophile and most other reviews I was curious if any follow up is necessary or is planned.
