Henry Azima: A Mission to Succeed

1087azima.jpgIn its first three years, UK hi-fi manufacturer Mission Electronics employed a number of engineers to reinforce the creative talents of founder and hi-fi enthusiast Farad Azima. The lineup included John Bicht, now with Versa Dynamics, and Stan Curtis, now heading up Cambridge Audio. But when Farad's brother Henry—"Henry" is actually a nickname and I am sure you can see the derivation—joined the company in 1979, he brought both a much-needed stability, and initiated a considerable degree of commercial success for the company's products. Now resident in Canada, he spends his time commuting between his laboratory in Toronto and the company's headquarters near Cambridge, England (footnote 1). Prior to joining Mission, however, Henry had served in the Iranian Navy for 15 years, an unusual training for an audio engineer. I asked him if this had been an appropriate preparation for the world of hi-fi.

Henry Azima: I had actually been a student in the UK, studying electronic engineering at the University of Surrey in Guildford. When I left the Navy in 1979 after the revolution in Iran, I moved to the UK and got a job with my previous University as an Assistant Lecturer and Researcher. However, Farad then asked me out of the blue to join Mission. I said, "Well, I have no idea about hi-fi, and stuff like that." He said, "You will learn, there's no problem!"

Yes, NHT has updated the legendary Super Zero. Just saw it in the new Audio Advisor catalog. I'm still loving my Zeros after all these years coupled with an SW-2Pi Sub. A great combo for us Poor Audiophiles.
The new ones are selling for $ 200.00/Pr!!!
I'd love to see these reviewed by the mag & of course, compared to the originals!

Howdy! I'm new to this whole "audiophile" thing. Please look over this system, and let me know if you have any tips or comments. I just want to be safe before spending a lot of money (my budget is around $5,000 USD).

Speakers - Dynaudio Excite X12
Integrated Amp - Arcam A28 (possibly A38)
DAC - Arcam rDAC

I will be playing most music through my computer (via USB to my DAC). Am I missing anything? My biggest debate is which amp to get. I like the warm sound of the Arcam, but I'm unsure of which model to get (and my local store only has the A18 to test).

Hello All, I bought (Paradigm) 2 Titan v.3, a 10"PDR sub, and a CC170 center, I was wondering what receiver would be good to pair with these. Also what speaker wire to use. My room is 18' by 20' with 12' ceiling. I will be using the system to watch blue-ray movies and play games on my PS3 also have 46" Samsung HDTV Thanks to all for helping.

To each and everyone (especially those I might disagree with often in political discussions), Happy Thanksgiving!

Let's each take a moment to remember not just all we have, but everything that has been given us. From the first settlers who risked and often gave their lives for something better,(a radical notion at the time), to fellow citizens now that work hard, play by the rules, and contribute to what is easy to take for granted. It's a lot less than perfect, but so are each one of us, and we are lucky to even get to try to make a great country better.
