Sonus Faber Guarneri memento loudspeaker Specifications

Audiophile eyes usually roll when a manufacturer describes a loudspeaker as a "genuine musical instrument." Musical instruments have specific characteristics of pitch and timbre. Ideally, a loudspeaker should be a portal to the music; the speaker itself should be neutral in pitch and timbre—in other words, the opposite of a musical instrument. That the sound produced should be "musical" is a different argument.

What it is we do when we do this thing we do

Back on April 13, Stereophile assistant editor Stephen Mejias posted the following thought on his "Elements of Our Enthusiasm" blog: "Is it possible to listen to music and listen to the hi-fi? Or are they two entirely different activities, incomparable and incompatible? Right now, for me, they seem to have nothing in common, whatsoever."

Keith Jarrett, Go Home

Keith Jarrett, Go Home

I am hereby boycotting Keith Jarrett. It’s a shame. He’s one of the great jazz pianists, but he’s just become too big a jerk—and, at a time when America has an ugly image in the world, a dreadful ambassador. Here’s <A HREF="
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BB9mMABRM0c" >
footage of him cursing Italian jazz fans for taking his picture as he approached the stage, before he even started playing, at the Umbria Jazz Festival. These are people who paid over $100 for what he called the “privilege” of hearing him play. There are polite ways to ask people not to take pictures. You don’t have to treat them like scum.

enjoying the music again!

I've got a decent two-channel set-up separate from my 5.1 HT rig for the first time in a long while and I am just enjoying the heck out of it! And it's not that music sounded bad on my A/V system, but the combination of a better room and better quality speakers and amp is just blowing me away over and over again. The system is as follows:

Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab OML-2 loudspeakers
Adcom GFA-5500 amp
Adcom GTP-602 tuner/pre-amp
Onkyo DX-7555 CD player

Wish List !!!!

If you had it your way, which components would you have Stereophile review before X-mas time?

Here's my list:

-Audio Research Reference CD7 CD Player
-Audio Research HD220 Hybrid Amplifier
-Rockport Technologies Mira Speakers
-Audio Research LS26 Hybrid Preamp
-Paradigm Signature S8 or S6 Speaker (latest version with the Beryllium tweeter)
