You can do it with Chuck Taylors, you can do it with Mini Coopers, you can do it with Cob Houses, and now you can even do it with loudspeakers. MartinLogan, ever fashion conscious, has launched a Custom Shop, allowing music lovers to style their own loudspeakers.
Cool, right?
Currently, only the flagship Summit loudspeaker ($10,995/pair) is up for a makeover. But assistant marketing manager, Devin Zell tells me he's working on getting the company's other models available in the Custom Shop. It'll take a few months. In the meantime, MartinLogan is happy to work directly with customers in producing personalized versions of other speaker models.
Even if you can't afford the Summit, you might give the Custom Shop a whirl. It's fun. Because I'm a pretty traditional dude when it comes to design (and other things), my Summit wears a natural cherry cabinet; black aluminum hood, backplate, and airframe; clear anodized aluminum feet; black backplate screws (discretion is good); super-cool clear binding posts for just a little bit of sass; no woofer masking; and a green LED. Pretty sweet.
You can, however, go crazy like Prince. I don't see a finish called "Purple Rain," but you can ask.
