New Naims: At CEDIA 2006, Naim introduced two new products to the North American market: the $1500 NAC122x preamplifier and the $5750 n-Vi all-in-one home entertainment system (DVD-CD player/processor/five-channel amplifier).
The NAC122x is meant to replace the NAC112x; it is based on Naim's NAC202 and features a hardwired motorized Alps volume control, rather than the NAC112x's resistor-ladder volume control. The 122x has six DIN relay-switched inputs, with two (CD and Aux) duplicated on RCA sockets. In addition to the usual DIN and RCA outputs, the 122x also has an RCA output "optimized for an active subwoofer, supporting the growing use of 2.1 systems."
The NAC122x can be powered from the preamp power outputs of the NAP150x or NAP200, in addition to the FLATCAP2x or HICAP2. Once powered, it can drive a Naim Stageline outboard phono stage via one of its DIN inputs. The NAC122x can accommodate an optional RS232 communications connection for use in multi-room systems.
The n-Vi is designed for discerning movie lovers who demand high performance but don't necessarily want to have their systems dominate their rooms. It includes a Faroudja progressive-scan chipset and Cirrus Logic DVD DSP. On the audio end, the n-Vi employs Burr-Brown six-channel enhanced multi-level delta-sigma DACs for up to 192kHz/24-bit resolution, as well as a five-channel amplifier using Tripath Class-T output modules (5x50W into 8 ohms; 5x90W into 4 ohms).
Ultralink/XLO CS1: Also introduced at CEDIA 2006, the Ultralink/XLO CS1 line has been designed to "meet the needs of custom installers who want premium performance cables at entry level prices," according to executive vice president Don Bouchard. "The best installers realize that the fine work they do can easily be compromised by cheap cables. … The specialty custom installation industry is learning that it needs to start the job right by building in the good stuff."
The CS1 cable line includes HDMI, S-video, composite video, digital Toslink, component video, digital coax, audio, subwoofer, stereo audio+video, and standard speaker cables.
