Daedalus, ModWright, WyWires

There was some booming in the bass, but the really nice highs and openness, as well as the large and engaging soundstage on a 24/96 version of Jennifer Warnes' "Nightingale" convinced me that Daedalus Audio, ModWright Instruments, and WyWires cabling are doing something very right. Reinforcement came from a very nice and smooth, albeit less than brilliantly illumined Red Book track by Chris Jones.

Electronics were all from ModWright: the 'Truth' tube-modified Oppo BDP-105D ($2500 for the mod only) or similarly modified 'Truth' Sony HAP-Z1ES ($2995 for the mod); prototype 24/192 Elyse Tube DAC (price TBD), which is due this summer; LS 36.5 DM two-box balanced tube preamp ($7900); and KWA 150 Signature Edition amplifier ($8495). Speakers were Daedalus Audio's Argos version.2 ($12,950). WyWires cabling and a prototype Daedalus custom rack (price TBD) completed the chain.

I heard the vinyl rig and there was no boominess detected on the cuts I heard!

Hell if I can remember what cuts they were... but anyway no boom is my conclusion and I'm sticking to it.

Okay. Meet me in front of the OK Corral in 15 minutes, and we'll have a shoot out to see whose opinion will prevail! Which, once I wipe that smile off my face, is a trigger-happy way of saying that I greatly appreciate your comments. You were there, and you listened with different ears and sonic preferences. Your honest, engaged comments greatly increase the value of this blog. Thank you.
