As it has for the last 11 years, The Cable Company, along with many of its vendors, is dedicating August to help some of "the poorest people in the most ravaged regions of the world."

Each year CARE helps The Cable Company line up an additional matching grant of at least 5:1 (and as much as 10:1 in the past) from a large donor for its total contributions. When The Cable Company contributes 5% of a sale (all sales) in August, and this is matched by one of the participating vendors, this 10% total donation also receives another five times this amount in matching funds.

Therefore, up to 60% (or a minimum of 30% for products whose manufacturer is not participating in the matching funds program) of the amount an audiophile spends on his or her audio passion in August can also end up helping some of the world's neediest people.

Last year, CARE's poverty-fighting work reached 455 million people in 66 countries. CARE puts 91% of its donations to work in the field, and of those funds, 71% of those funds support community development, with the other 29% going to emergency services and rehabilitation—which means it is stretched particularly thin with the ongoing crises in Darfur and in east and southern Africa, and reconstruction following last year's India/Pakistan earthquake. This August, particularly, audiophiles can make a big difference with their cable purchases.
