VQR on Little Nemo

I remember when The Virginia Quarterly Review was the perfect panacea for insomnia, but something has happened to that august publication: It woke up! These days, it has become a must-read, from Art Spiegelman's latest multi-chapter opus to well-written articles such as this one on Winsor McCay's Little Nemo in Slumberland.

Could use help understanding bridging an amp

Forums

Pardon my lack of knowledge, but I could use some help trying to understand something due to conflicting information. I currently use an old Wadia 6 that goes straight into a Rowland Model 1 via balanced interconnects, and then to a pair of Aerial 10T speakers. I have enjoyed this setup for about 8 years, with no changes being made. Reading more about the 10T speakers, I know that they aren't efficient and, although the Wadia/Roland/Aerials system sounds "good", I am told that the 10Ts would sound even better with more power. Hang in there, because this is a 2 part question.......

Is a pre-amp a worthy upgrade?

Hi guys, just kickin the idea around. I presently have a NAD T773 receiver that I am very happy with for both HT and also used as a pre-amp for 2 channel music. Our tax money just came & after giving the wife her play money I have approx $1500 to play with. How would a separate pre-amp benefit me? I know that separates generally are the way to go but I need some convincing. I'm open to your suggestions on the matter. Tubes, SS, hybrid, what are the benefits & differences between them? Should I go for it or spend the money on something else? What brands do you recommend?

The Top 25 X-Men?

The Top 25 X-Men?

Over at IGN.com, Hilary Goldstein and Richard George have compiled a list of the top 25 X-Men characters. Granted, it's a shamelessly blatant tie-in to Friday's release of X-Men III: The Last Stand, but it also points to what I suspect will be that movie's biggest weakness, judging from the trailers I've seen.

Anything great for small rooms? Is this a market underserved?

Forums

Any minimonitor that has real bass? Any "slim" floorstand that delivers top notch sound? is this a market underserved?

- need to move to a mini-studio in nyu so spent some good time searching for a pair of right speakers but found either:
1) good bookshelf that has no bass (e.g. cremona auditor)
2) bookshelf that's more capable of full range but after adding the stand is as big as full-sized floorstands. (e.g. micro utopia)
3) "slim" floorstands that is "mid-end" only (e.g. audio physic spark, pmc gb, totem arro)

interested to know your thought?
