Bad Example

In November's "Aural Robert" (p.154 in the print mag), music editor Robert Baird sees technological advancement as the major cause for the decline of the independent record store. He writes:

Excellent performance of "Crossroads" by a Cream that came to <I>play</I>. But kids, this video is evidence that you shouldn't take acid and operate a camera.

Maybe We Should Call It "Ice 9"?

Maybe We Should Call It "Ice 9"?

You'd think we knew pretty much all there was to know about water, wouldn't you? Well, zap it with high-energy X-rays, subject it to extremely high pressure, and make sure the proportions of H2 and 02 are <I>just</I> right and you get "a highly energetic material."

Looking for a LAZY speaker...

Forums

I grew up listening to my dad's very vintage Philips stereo consisting of a 2-way system with the bass speaker mounted in the wooden ceiling and the tweeter hanging loose next to it. All my friends say this is awful, but I love the sound of the old "lazy" speakers (lazy as in opposite of very new and fast and hip sounding speakers like Dynaudio's).
Now I'm looking for a set that has that same laziness, that vintage sound, warm and easy and not so "in your face".

What should I be looking for, 'cause i've really got no idea. Old JBL's (L100)? Philips? or vintage KEF cresta's?

Wes Phillips has confused me.

In the article:
Is the CD dead?
Wes Phillips writes:
"Here's what I think the record labels missed: According to their own statistics, more than half of their customers want to use music when, where, and how they want to. I personally want the highest-quality sound I can get in my living room, but I also want my music in the gym, on the road, and in my office. We music lovers get cranky when we can't transfer the music we bought from one venue to another

Art Dudley's review of Artemis PH-1

The oddest part about Art's "review" of the Artemis is that in the 5-pg review he never really describes how it sounds! His entire commentary could be reduced to probably one sentence. In fact, all he really says is that it has big images and articulate bass. No comments at all about overall tonal balance, dynamics, pacing, detail, etc.
