Vandersteens and puzzlement

I smiled when, again, the fine review of the Vandersteen 2Ce Signatures left Art Dudley very pleased and JA "puzzled". Art listened over a long period of time and offered, in some detail, his estimation of the speakers' performance. JA measured, in some detail, and provided the data which led to his puzzlement. I thought of Art and JA again today as I was rereading Mark Helprin's excellent text of the legend of "Swan Lake". For those who haven't read Helprin's account lately or at all, the guy is a marvelous story teller.

McCormack - SMc upgrades worth it?

Forums

Hello All,

I am new to the forum and was hoping that some of you may have some experience with McCormack gear, particularly with the SMc upgrades.

I have a DNA-1 Deluxe and TLC-1 Deluxe that I purchased new about 10 years ago. I am now thinking of sending them to SMc for "gold" upgrades.

My question is, would the SMc-upgraded amp be better than a plain-vanilla DNA-225? Or, has SS technology changed enough over the last 10 years that a really good integrated (such as the Creek Destiny) would be a cost effective system upgrade?

Burwen Bobcat - Free Pass???

I have a quick question:

Why as Red Rose's Burwen Bobcat been getting a "free pass" from Stereophile?

The claims that are being made by the Burwen Bobcat fly in the face of logic and yet they go completely unchallenged within the pages of one of the world's leading audio publications.

"Make MP3s that sound better than original CDS" - an actual quote from the Bobcat web site.

Stereophile what gives? This product is for sale and it is not cheap. The time has come for an in depth review. Is it for real or just another 24 bit crystalizer ala Sound Blaster?

Walter Walter Everywhere

Walter Walter Everywhere

I'd been looking forward to reading Neal Gabler's <I>Walt Disney: The Triumph of American Imagination</I>. Well, that was before I read his essay <A HREF="http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/la-op-gabler17dec17,0,1578644.story… Disney: Man or Mouse"</A> in the <I>LA Times</I>. It was, shall we say, curiously flat for such a meaty subject.
