Did any audiophile companies make portable CD players when they were still popular?

I just got a Rega P1 which I'm really loving...I was googling around on the P1 and saw that some places offer replacement glass platters for around 70 dollars, which struck me as not too much to spend if I'll actually see a marked improvement in sound...They claim that these are factory Rega platters, and that they used to come standard on the P2.

Was thinking about tweaks and ended up with a stupid question:

When Stereophile measures a speaker's off axis response, does it ever include vertical data?

I don't think it does.

I went and checked a few reviews, and things are usually measured "on axis," and then measured for "lateral dispersion" and "lateral response."

Maybe vertical dispersion would be interesting to see, just as a discussion topic or something.

I've recently hooked up an old Marantz CD-60 SE that has been in storage for years and have re-discovered how good it sounds compared to the PC audio setup I've bee using.

How does this compare now to modern CD players?

It is currently connected to 5.1 Logitech Z-5500 speakers in a 12ft x 12ft room, so maybe an upgrade wouldn't benefit this type of setup.

Also, would you advise me to buy a cheap vintage upgrade like the Marantz CD63 mk II, KI Signature or something new (Azur 640C (Version 2))?

Any thoughts/suggestions?
