Recommendations for floor-standing speakers needed.

Hi. I'm in the market for a pair of somewhat high quality floor standing speakers but I'm not sure whats best for my money. I'm looking for a really crisp sound. Power but not overkill. Something that sounds exceptional even at the lower volumes. I wouldnt wanna pay too much more than 500 bucks for the pair. Also, I went to Best Buy to test drive some floor standing speakers by Klipsch. I'd never heard of this company before. Are they a good brand to consider as well?

Thanks.

What it is we do when we do that thing we do.

More often than not, I agree with Wes Phillips' point of view. As an example, I accept that Stephen has summed things up about as well as one can with his, "Listening to music. On the hi-fi."

Based on what appears in this forum, however, I have to part company with Wes when he says of those who participate in our hobby (As We See It - August), "We like being exclusive. We like being disputative. We just loves our arguments."

Using a UK Denon amp in the US

Just brought 2 Denon PMA 250SE amps from the UK to the US and neither of them are working. Power light is on when I connect them to the socket through a standard travel converter.

As I am TOTALLY ignorant of all things electrical, could this be anything to do with the power supply being different....or are my speakers broken?

Thanks

Liam

Most Disappointing Interview Q/A of the Week

From the August issue of Wired magazine:

Question: OK, let's talk tips. What's your home music setup? How do you keep all the wires and cords to a minimum?

Martha Stewart: I live in an old house with no closets and no built-ins. I hate big cupboards. So, where do you put your stereos and all that the stuff? The solution is easy: Put an iPod in each room like in a drawer. Add wireless speakers and the sound system disappears into the room. It's so simple and you don't have to buy all that crap. You know how many years of crap I had?
