New system help

hey everyone,

This is my first post in here, so please go easy on me ok

I'm in the market for a new HI FI Stereo setup.

I have been collection punk and garage records for the last 14 years. 90% of my music collection consists of vinyl records and a feel CDs (great source for bootlegs and compilations).

My wife bought me for xmas a KAB Technics 1200 fully loaded with a Shure V15VxMR.
It was major improvement from my previous turntable but now my 90's Marantz PM-94 amp is falling apart.

surge suppressors / power conditioners / power management

My question is, are expensive power management products really worth the money? And I guess you could define "expensive" however you want to. I realize it's a category with a wide range of prices and performance. I don't know whether I should be willing to cough up a few hundred to protect a $4000 system, or whether I should keep doing what I've always done, which is to go to Radio Shack or Wal-Mart and get a $30 or $40 dollar surge protector and call it good.

Advice on speaker dilemma

Forums

Hey guys,

I'm new to this forum.

I'm listening to Klipschorns and have been toying with the idea of changing speaker lines. Or maybe trying a Butler tube amp and Jolida Tube CD player so see if I can "soften" things up a bit with the somewhat bright Khorns.

But, changing over my whole speaker line, might be too costly and time consuming.

I'd like a speaker with great soundstage AND FULL imaging even at lower volumes.....I have Tinnitus in one ear ( constant ) but still would like to enjoy music, although I'm 75/25 HT and music.

ManualsCenter.com - Caution!

Hi,

Anyone using ManualsCenter.com as a source of manuals?

I have used them in the past, and been quite happy with the service.

Unfortunately my last request (and payment) went unanswered.

More worrying, they won't respond to any communication.

Perhaps wise to consider other sources in preference.

I will update if they come good.

cheers,

Michael

Paradigm's Atom and Wes' Listening Room

I thought this months issue was one of the years best. Lots of affordable stuff and relevant side by side comparisons of two affordable speakers in the Atom and Alpha B1.

JA measures both in WP's room and Wes gives them a subjective comparison. Since these two speakers are probably going to compete directly with a large number of prospective purchasers, the review is particularly useful.

$300 for vinyl to CD conversion?

I want to back up (NOT get rid of) a lot of my vinyl records and cassettes. There's a $300 Teac CD recorder that will do that - hooks up to the stereo, has analog input. Wouldn't have to bother hauling my computer to the stereo or vice versa. Worthwhile? I would consider spending some more, if it gave notably better results. Looking forward to advice, thanks.
