Technical Explainations?

I have recently become interested in thinking about building some of my own speakers. Being new though, a lot of the technicalities are very hard to understand.

I was wondering if anyone knows a good place to go to read about what different driver specs mean (Qts, Vas. SPL, ect.) and how they relate to one another, and what some of the different graphs that speaker applications show you account for (Transfer function magnitide/phase, Impedance, Group Delay, etc.).

"...except for rap or electronica..."

Forums

I'm in the process of finding the right set of speakers for me in the <$3000 area. In doing this, I've found a literally enormous set of reviews containing verbiage such as "these speakers are fantastic, except for lovers of electronica or rap music," and "hip hop lovers should look elsewhere."

I understand that electronica isn't the preferred material of many audiophiles. And I understand that from a content perspective, hip hop is very polarizing, and that there are a great number of very poorly recorded/produced hip hop albums.

In 2005, journalism professor Michael Skube wrote an uninformed "think" piece about blogs and blog culture, concluding that bloggers didn't do "real" journalism. (He's probably seen this one.) On August 19 this year, he did what hacks do—he wrote the same piece again, this time for The LA Times.
