Marantz CD-60 SE - upgrade needed?

Hi,

I've recently hooked up an old Marantz CD-60 SE that has been in storage for years and have re-discovered how good it sounds compared to the PC audio setup I've bee using.

How does this compare now to modern CD players?

It is currently connected to 5.1 Logitech Z-5500 speakers in a 12ft x 12ft room, so maybe an upgrade wouldn't benefit this type of setup.

Also, would you advise me to buy a cheap vintage upgrade like the Marantz CD63 mk II, KI Signature or something new (Azur 640C (Version 2))?

Any thoughts/suggestions?

"The Audio Elegance rack is now housing all of my equipment and I am hearing previously unheard background vocals and instruments from recordings that I have been listening to for 30 plus years. Also the images have greatly improved as well as the sense of space between the performers. This morning I played the standard Columbia Dave Brubeck, "Take Five." The interplay between Joe Morello's drum kit and Brubeck's and Desmond's playing took on new life. The attack of the drum was so great that I played it 3 times just to be sure I was hearing and not imagining it.

Two Towers of Worms

I would imagine Messrs. Fremer and Atkinson as well as our web master are somewhat surprised regarding the dearth of posts regarding the "High-Power Towers", Musical Fidelity's Supercharger Amps in the September Issue. You all must have it by now, my copy has stains and curling pages! I too believed this review would split open the proverbial can o' worms on this forum regarding at least some of the conclusions drawn by Messr. Fremer, although I personally do not find them to be out of character for the author. Not that they have been Fremer'd (pardon me, Mr.

bedroom dj looking to buy some new equipment

hi im a bedroom dj and i dont know much at all about stereo systems, but i want to get the most out of my records in terms of sound quality and my small budget (im a student too).

im currently using a sony gx69es receiver and a pair of klh av33s. youre probably laughing at how pathetic my system is, but i got them for like $40 off craigslist and to be honest, the sony receiver is actually quite nice even though its pretty old. the speakers are ok, but sometimes they will ring when i turn up my mixers too much (dont know if thats the speakers or the receiver).

Replacing Monsoon MM:1000 Speakers

I recently was the victim of a Lightning strike to my apt. building and my Monsoon MM:1000's were blown and rendered screechers I haven't heard better out of a pair of computer speakers and just got my insurance check for them valued at 230 dollars still which was music to my ears. I'm looking for input to spend up to that 230 on some new speakers. I went out and bought the bose companion 3 series 2 speakers and I'm not that impressed by the low end sound and honostly downright disapointed in them.

Newbie looking for help with old Marantz

Hi everyone,
I just dusted off the old Marantz MR220 receiver that I bought with grass-cutting money when I was 12 (1977). It still works great and is going to provide my tunes out in my new shop, but it needs a little TLC. The backlighting no longer works and the volume knob creates a lot of crackling when you turn it. Can someone direct me to help/support with an old model like this?

Thanks

Midrange HT/HiFi receiver?

I figured before I started working on some speakers, I really need a new receiver to drive them. I currently have an Onkyo TX-SV545, which is quite lacking. What I really don't like about it is that when doing surround, the rear channels only get 25W at 8 ohms. In comparison, the fronts/center get 75W. The other gripe is that there is no crossover adjustment for the different areas (Front/Back/Center/Sub).
