Live concerts on DVD totally neglected by audio and video magazines alike..

Live concerts on DVD have been totally neglected by audio and video magazines such as Stereophile, TAS and their home theater magazines. Some of the people interested in live music on DVD never watch movies and never buy music without the video component to it. All they care is live concerts! How did audio and video magazines miss that? Audio magazines always brag about speakers capable of reproducing live music. I think video lift not only the sound proper but helps appreciate the music as well.

The French They Are a Funny Race

Jon Carroll is always worth reading, but you really don't want to miss a column that has this lede: "This is such a wonderful story. It should serve as an example to us all, and as a shining light to the young. Yes, you can do something positive for society, while still breaking the law and cheesing everybody off! It's win-win."

Power conditioners

I live in an area that in the late summer experiences some brown outs and power outages. So I purchased a Panamax M5510 power conditioner ($1300). This unit has high current outlets for amps and has isolated and balanced modes along with analog voltage and amp meters. It also protects against brown outs and surges. The company states that it is more of an "audiophile" unit. My question is that since I feel that I need to protect my gear, what are your opinions on this unit or other "high end" power conditioners. I don't want to degrade the sound at all.
Thanks,
Don

Floorstanding speaker questions

I am new to Hifi and just now building a system. I will be running:
1. Pioneer Elite VSX-92TXH
2. 2-Outlaw Audio 2200 monoblocks (for towers)
3. Velodyne 12 subwoofer
4. Towers-TBD
I am concerned with quality sound and great midrange. I listen to rock, classic rock, r&b, hip hop, etc. My three contenders for floorstanders are:
1. Focal Chorus 836v
2. Anthony Gallo Nucleus REF 3.1
3. Axiom Audio M80TI
I am going to order the speakers in the next couple of days, sight unseen (or unheard). Any help would be greatly appreciated...
