After reading over and over again online and in the press about how audiophiles (or more likely, audiophools) are such ridiculous fools I think it is time for us audiophiles to take a closer look at just why this keeps happening. The following is my analysis of the situation, please feel free to comment and/or enhance.
Am finally taking the big step of upgrading my old early-90s era stereo system (Adcom amp/pre-amp (GFA 555 and GTP 555II); Definitive BP8s; NAD CD/DVD player). The first step is completed with the purchase today of PSB Synchrony OneB's. The rest I really could use some advice with. Since I am a part of a family unit (one could say "King", I supppose, but that is purely self-delusion), I need something with the flexibility to do a good job with movies while at the same time satisfy my need to spend some quality time picking apart some favorite CDs.
Has anyone had any experience with Odyssey Audio? Iv been looking at their Odyssey Audio Mono Extremes via there web site. There are some good reviews on AudioReview. The Stratos have had 137 reviews with a review of 4.92 out of 5.
Also there Is the McCormack DNA-225 that doesnt have the great reviews that Odyssey Audio has but Steve McCormack does upgades through SMc Audio that are supposed to be great.
A big mistake with a little help by your dealer is to give too much money for the amplifier.
The loudspeaker is the critical element in particular today where you find out too much cinema speakers.
So you have to pay much attention at the speaker you buy.
Another big mistake is to look for technology aspect:many marks give you strong information speaking about new technology they use and this fact is only to justify high level price not important for you and get a fine system at a correct price.
Sorry if the subject title sounds like a riff on "How Stella Got Her Groove Back" *cringe* but I wanted to post a general summary of my experience as a complete neophyte to audio hi-fi, putting together a system for the first time, so that other newbies can gauge from my experience what their process might be like, in putting their systems together. Hopefully it will help them in the process, save them some grief & time.
