I'm comparing specs of NAD 315 (integrated) & Pro-Ject Pre Box and Amp Box separates. Do I care that NAD specs Input impedance (R & C) at 50k?/100pF where Pro-Ject specs input impedance at 20kohms.
NAD specs Total Harmonic Distortion at <0.02 while Pre Box specs THD at 0.001 but the companion Pro-ject Amp Box specs THD at <0.05 at 10W. Is NAD's <0.02 meaningful without a watts parameter.
Turning to gain, Pro-ject Pre specs at 8.5 dB and Pro-Ject Amp Box at 22dB. (Does this aggregate to 30.5?) NAD specs Voltage Gain at 39dB. Is measuring voltage the same as measuring sound pressure? Are Pro-Ject and NAD measuring the identical parameter?
Last, should I make any inferences from the fact that Pro-Ject provides specs for Frequency Response (5Hz-20Hz), channel separation [>40dB at 20kHz], noise floor (is this the same as NAD's signal to noise ratio? (respectively Pro ject >-100dB A weighted; NAD > -95dB A weighted). NAD does not provide specs for channel separation, frequency response.)
Is any of this important, in the absence of a listening room and dealership? Would it be best not to worry and wait for John Atkinson to publish analysis and graphs complementing a review?
Many thanks,
Richard Moss
