So I started to read the Miles Davis "Kind of Blue" megabox review with keen interest, because I wanted to know if the included LP was good enough of a justification for me to splurge on the box. But, surprise, no mention of how the vinyl sounded at all!!! (Or did I just read the review too quickly?) Just that it's blue & gimmicky, which is an obvious point! Can we get a considered, non-snarky comment on the LP, too, please, since it's a big part of the box that's under review? Thanks.
Hello there. I wish I could find a proper explanation about this situation. With some basic tuning devices (like Stereophile Test cds) I have achieved with my stereo the "virtual" center channel a good stereo imaging is supposed to provide. The effect is clearly there and when hearing a cd one could swear there was a center channel where the voices come out. BUT the thing is that I don't know why, if I move my chair slighty to the right and thus the voice sounding also slighty to the right I experience a very nice? hearing sensation, like some SRS effect.
I've been struggling to find any relevant information about this, so I figured this would be a great place to ask.
I've heard both sides of the fence here, so I'm not 100% sure which is accurate.
Please understand that I'm already aware that it's better to listen off of the hard drive with a lossless rip, but that's not the question at hand at this time.
A) What makes a good computer CD transport? I know that the player will have a great impact, so please negate that aspect of it for now.
Looking to add more power to my system I came across Emotiva on the Web. It seems that they make high quality audiophile products at great prices. Well having been brainwashed to believe that is not possible I sent an eMail to Emotiva to ask about how their equipment may compare to others. Here is their reply:
Hello Rich,
First off I would like to say thank you for your interest in Emotiva. I would also like to apologize for the delayed reply to your email. I have been out of the office and now I am trying to get caught up.
Hi!
I just bought a Mini Theater System from PSB (with a Subseries 1 sub, 4 Alpha LR1 speakers and 1 CLR1 speaker) with a Sony STR-DA2400ES AV receiver.
When I look at the specification of my speakers, the impedance for the LR1 is 6 ohms nominal and 4 ohms minimum and for the CLR1 is 8 ohms nominal and 6 ohms minimum. On my AV receiver, I can choose either 8 or 4 ohms, but the configuration applies for all of my speakers at the same time.
I would like to know which configuration should I choose.
Thank you
