Burmester B25 loudspeaker

Burmester B25 loudspeaker

It's always fun to visit the Burmester Audio suite at the annual Consumer Electronic Show. Founder Dieter Burmester and CEO Udo Besser are upbeat, fun-loving personalities who enjoy demonstrating their latest home audio gear—that is, when they're not working on the latest updates to their sound system for the $2.1 million Bugatti Veyron 16.4 supercar. This past year they introduced their new B25 loudspeaker, an 88-lb floorstander. This "baby" Burmester's suggested retail price of $12,000/pair is only one-sixth that of Burmester's flagship speaker, the B100, only one-fourth its weight, and half its height. The design goals for the B25 were a less expensive, lighter speaker that was easier to set up, while retaining Burmester products' high-quality sound and good looks. Playing my own CDs through the B25s at the 2008 CES, I found them notably smooth and detailed; they also imaged well, and were particularly good at reproducing male voices.

Network audio/receivers/USB drives

Hi

Still working out a good quality future proof stratergy.

My issue is finding a way to digitize/playback all my various forms of digital music ie DVD-A/SACD/DTS/CD as well as digitize my analogue collection.

Ive looked ta various combos of ADC's audio servers and DAC's. My big issue is that i cant seem to get a common approach.

Trashing the Cabinet Idea... Building an Open Rack

Ok, now that I have done my research my mind has been completely changed. The new plan is to build an open rack out of wood with MDF Shelves which will rest on points or some other isolation product.

This is what I will be modeling my design off of:

I have a couple questions that need answering before I put together a design:

And for the trifecta....Height.

Anybody an aficionado of 'height?'

I'm not talking Amy Acuff, either.

Height in your sound reproduction.

I tend to maybe lean toward it when I can, but it one of the 'lesser' sound gods for me.

I'm wondering if people have some favorite recording that really seem to get it right, and whether or not you audition new gear listening for that characteristic.

I was recently listening to Robbie Robertson's 'third or fourth newest' solo album (from 1987, damn it I'm old) and it's loaded with height cues. Layers of 'em!

Stereophile as an ice breaker?

Aloha,

Any of y'all ever met up with a kindred spirit by virtue of the hard copy of Sterophile?

I've had two issues gift me with long term buddy-ship.

July 1992 issue: I was working at UCLA and had a friend in the same field but in another division, and on July first each year, a new 'fellow' would rotate in for one that left. My friend Mike was a holdover, and I went down to hang with him and next to his desk was the desk of the 'new guy.'

Breaking into the world of Vinyl!

I just recently found how amazing vinyl can sound on a road trip I took with a few friends and heard the true quality that I was missing from a record in a small ma pop restaurant.

Since then, I have been hunting down records for songs that I love (sam cooke, nina simone, delfonics, cooke, redding, sinatra, and newer artists etc etc) and am extremely excited to hear them and feel all that I've been missing.

Unfortunately, I am clueless, and hate the idea of posting this thread because the amount of these generic 'help me' threads must be staggering.

How to improve sound from Pinnacle BD-1000 plus A/V receiver?

I got a new pair of Pinnacle Black Diamond BD-1000 speakers. I don't know much about these speakers, but they were free so I figured they'd make a good replacement for my Infinity OVTR3 speakers that have 50% cracked and busted speaker cones. I was right, the BD-1000's do sound a lot better than my busted Infinity speakers.
