TV Noir / La Vie

Hey. If you like Cold Cave, I think you'll like Bal Pare. It's pretty safe to judge a 7" by its cover, which is what I did when I saw this one winking at me from the racks at Other Music. How could it not be good, all masked and silvery and naked like that?

Component racks & LP storage

Hi all,

I'm in the process of buying a house, and as a result, establishing a dedicated listening space (at least that's the plan at present). This has me thinking about upgrading my component rack and LP shelving (which currently consists of the mass market particle board "entertainment center" style piece of furniture for the system and crates/boxes for the LPs)

Two words...

...for lovers of white soul.

Mayer Hawthorne.

Sweet Jebus, I can't remember the last time I heard an album I liked this much. The reference points are obvious: Motown, Philly soul, a bit o' Beach Boys. It's freaking frothy but it isn't leaving my cd player. There is nothing ironic here, nothing post modern. And every time you think he's going to fall into cliche land, he pulls out of the nose dive with some great musical or lyrical trick.

Touchstone: I guarantee you'll love this if you like Laura Nyro's 'Gonna Take a Miracle.' (Or early Todd Rundgren)
