Weekly music: Chihei Hatakeyama

These forums seem to not have a lot of activity but how about making a regular-ish feature of posting a piece of music every week.
That way we can all maybe find something new.
Might even like it.
You never know.
I mean surely you guys don't all have only the same handful of audiophile recordings... do you???
I'll start the ball rolling with Chehei Hatakeyama and this piece called Waves.
Waves

Kind of a guilty sonic pleasure.

Years ago, some girl gave me Pulse by Pink Floyd, but she somehow switched with another disc at her place or mine or on some trip and I never got a replacement.

15 years go by...

At Zia the other day, there was a used copy, so I figured I may as well make things right (with the CD situation.)

Well, damn.

I played the live DSOM section and that fucker puts up a giant seamless soundstage that has some sort of doodad processing that makes things happen way outside the usual imaging margins and even created the sensation of sounds coming from behind.

4 fun little Q-Sound demo files

I am just now uploading 4 fun little files to a site called 4shared dot com. Better wait an hour or so, until they are fully uploaded. They are just demo files, but clearly demonstrates the difference between Q-Sound and stereo. In converting them I accidently upsampled them to what looks like 24/96, but I assure you they are not in that quality. Still fun. Enjoy!

Buzzing noise from integrated amp?

Hello All, A friend of mine has a Harmon Kardon integrated amp approx 10 years old don't know the model etc.- the amp emits a constant buzzing sound when powered up , inaudible when cranked right up, but she has just moved to a small unit so low level playing is required most of the time, any thoughts???Sounds like the hum from an old refridgerator!

Speaker question from an Axpona report.

Check this blog:

Clairaudient LSA

So, with 16 drivers and being a one way (no crossover?) how would you wire the speakers?

Wouldn't running them in parallel make for an almost "zero ohm" load?

Wouldn't running them in series make them too ineffeciant?

I'm curious how you drive 16 of the same driver.

Do you use a "one-way crossover?"

This seems a fascinating project.

Bought in lots of 5 or more, you can buy them retail for 150 each.

Hey, I found another killer recording(and for you piss takers, it isnt rock)

I dont care much for classical music these days..probably due in no small part to my disliking classical music fans. and especially critics and more especially the musicians(of which I have been one)!

The LARS Meets Scaena

The LARS Meets Scaena

I could have kicked myself. At the 2010 CES, as much as I wanted to hear and blog about the eye-catching and ultra-expensive The LARS 1 36W monoblocks ($90,000/pair), I couldn't find the room. So when the CBO/founder of Engstrom , Timo Engström (second from right in my photo), emailed to say he'd be displaying at Axpona, I assured him that if I didn't get to his room this time around, I deserved to be shot.

The Voice That Is Speaks Beauty

The Voice That Is Speaks Beauty

As much as I enjoyed many of the systems I auditioned on the first day of the show, the one that seduced me the most was assembled by Doug White's The Voice That Is of Newtown Square, PA. Powered by Vitus (pronounced VEE-toos) Audio SM-010 25W class-A monoblocks ($49,500/pair), and connected by Argento Audio FLOW power cords ($3100/2m), interconnects ($4100/m with RCAs), Master Reference interconnects ($8900/1m RCA), and Master Reference speaker cable ($24,500/2m), the dCS Puccini SACD/CD player ($17,999) with U-Clock ($4999) and Tidal Audio Piano Cera speakers ($28,400/pair in midnight black lacquer, or $36,3000 in Ebony Macassar) were producing the warmest and most beautiful midrange I had heard so far. In fact, as it turned out, it was the warmest and most seductive midrange I heard on the first two days of the show.
