Ktema: Franco Serblin's latest work

All the arts can be seen as a manifestation of one and the same impulse. The drive to the arts must surely have had a biological origin. But why do these types of behaviour exist? Why should Beethoven choose the massive labour of composition rather than eating, drinking, a family life? Maybe there was the desire to create a `ktema es aei` (a possession for ever), in the awareness of death to survive somehow, but this does not indicate why his activity took this specifically artistic form.

Building a new system - need advice

I'm getting back into vinyl after listening to a friend's newly revised collection.

I know I'm working from the inside out but inserting a turntable into existing stuff but I'm not exactly pleased with my progress and could use some experienced advice.

I now have a Pro-ject Genie 1.3 TT, a HK 3490 rec'vr, Bellari phono pre-amp all running into older Paradigm studio 60 floor spkrs.

New To Me

John Prine is completely new to me, but I feel like I've known his music all my life. The songs feel so important and true to me, it's difficult to understand how I've managed to live my entire life without knowing them. I fell immediately in love with his work and I want to explore it all.

Are there artists or songs that have done this for you?

A Child That's Grown Old

A Child That's Grown Old

I’m on the N train heading to Manhattan from Bay Ridge and there’s a fat Mexican baby in a dull red stroller. She is screaming her heart out. I’m trying to read an article in New York magazine recommended to me by a co-worker, but I don’t think I’ll make it to the end. I’ve read enough about addiction to know how ugly it can be; I don’t want to live through it again.
