Audio Research quality

Anyone else notice that this is the second power amp/int amp from Audio Research that has had a "hiccup" when tested by JA? When the Ref amp was tested for the last review (that the reviewer bought I may add) there were some poor measurments that Audio Research blamed on a tube. Now this unit has issues requiring some work. Are the units reviewed "new off the line" or are they units that go from reviewer to reviewer? To question Audio Research's ability to make a product of outstanding sonic quality is ridiculous.

Wandering, Searching, Cool Struttin'

Wandering, Searching, Cool Struttin'

Sort of like a drunk wandering around the East Village in search of companionship or something, I stumbled upon this outstanding article by Stereophile’s former senior contributing editor, Jonathan Scull. The piece, “All Sales Are Vinyl,” which appeared in the December 1997 issue of The Atlantic Monthly, takes the reader on a brisk tour of Greenwich Village record shops. Though many of the shops mentioned are long gone, others such as A-1, the Jazz Record Center, Academy Records, and Other Music are still going strong, and Jonathan’s writing is at its best. Not only does he capture the joy of the vinyl hunt, he illuminates this unreal city, and does so with his unique, charming wit&#151his comic timing is brilliant.

A phono Question

Being a financially challenged fellow, I have a very modest vinyl front end consisting of a Thorens TD170, an ortofon Red cartridge, and a parasound Zphono phono amp (a refurb).

I have it sitting on a Salamander archtype 3 stand on vibrapods. The turntable is level per a level bubble.
