An lifelong audiophile and music lover who teaches at a liberal arts college is trying to put together a recorded-music listening room so students can hear great music on something other than earbuds.

The listening room will have LP playback.

The room is being designed by an architect, with acoustical consultation from Rives Audio.

The room is to be about 20 x 35 feet with a ceiling height of about 10 feet. Obviously, these dimensions will be fine-tuned.

Okay, I have rough handle on several high end speakers and can almost understand all the hype...they make better seven or eight times out of ten, regardless of how good you think you are, (unless you are super good) us home grown folks just do not have the CNC cutting tachniques...however...what about stands???

Forget the technicalities for the meantime and just concentrate on the top five materials please. I am off and running with dozens because I grudge the big bucks for basic welded frames and brand name metal tubes...any inputs folks:

There are some performers who are clearly great yet whose records, and often live performances, are often disappointing because their back-up bands are not at the same artistic level.
