Sisound of Poland's Product Manager Rafal Wofczyński presented the world premiere of his 3-way Sisound Solidus S loudspeaker (15,000€/pair). The speaker, which is currently available only in Poland, claims a frequency response of 26Hz-20kHz, a 4-ohm nominal impedance that dips to 2.5 ohms or lower in the extended LF setting, and 90dB sensitivity.
Its key design elements include a twin paper cone Scan-speak Revelator 13" twin paper cone woofer in a sealed box, a planar ribbon 21cm x 7.5cm dipolar midrange whose enclosure's back panel can be opened or closed, and a planar ribbon tweeter. Midrange and high attenuation are adjustable, and bass can be set to one of two low-frequency options. SEAS superspikes are included. The internal wiring is derived from Sisound reference Serenus SE multicore speaker cable—kudos on the name. Because low frequency and high frequency inputs are separated, you can bi-wire and bi-amp the speakers.
On someone's recording of "St. John's Infirmary"—at least 43 recordings exist—a so-so recording of Vivaldi's perpetual Four Seasons, and Agnes Obel's "Dorian", the speakers stood out for their fine, compelling midrange. That they performed so well in a hotel room that, two years ago, challenged any speaker to deliver good sound spoke to the quality of the design.
