Burning Amp 2018 Set For September 30 in San Francisco

Sunday, September 30, 8:30am–8:00pm, the Burning Amp Festival 2018 takes place at San Francisco's Fort Mason Center. Held annually in the fall since 2007, BAF celebrates DIY audio technology both new and old, tube and solid-state, analog and digital. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own gear—DIY amps, speakers, turntables, DACs, servers, etc—and there will be free admission to anyone bringing a DIY project.

There will be displays, demos, auction and raffle items, and freebies, plus lectures at the Firehouse, given by three prominent figures in audio engineering design: Nelson Pass, Roger Modjeski, and Wayne Colburn.

Nelson Pass will devote most of his talk to the newer Sony VFET amplifier kits he is developing for the store at www.diyAudio . These will use up Nelson's remaining Sony VFET transistors—about 400 channels' worth.

Roger Modjeski, of Music Reference and founder/director of www.berkeleyhifischool.com, will be speaking on tube amp design.

Wayne Colburn from Pass Labs (and who has been with Nelson Pass since the Threshold days) will talk about "Simulation vs Reality: a line-level amplifier stage with 3¢ transistors and 15¢ FETs."

Space at the Firehouse is limited, so make your travel plans today.
