A new Polish turntable brand, BennyAudio, is poised to enter the United States via the Supreme Acoustic Systems distributorship. Given what I heard in BennyAudio's room at Audio Video Show 2024, aka The Warsaw Show, my audiophile buddy Scott might have gone to heaven and back if he’d been able to join me.
For Scott, cymbals are one of many litmus tests for a sound system. If he'd heard how fabulously BennyAudio’s Odyssey turntable, which is equipped with a short belt drive, one arm, and a van den Hul Frog Gold cartridge, reproduced the sound of cymbals. On "Dating" from E.S.T. Live in Gothenburg, cymbals and piano both sounded so beautifully clear, balanced, and lifelike that I wished I could have instantaneously beamed up Scotty, recorded his reactions, and released them on Scott Live in Warsaw.
Because van den Hul supplied cables, preamp, and monoblocks, they and the AudioSolutions speakers from Lithuania also deserve credit for the system’s superb midrange and top. Bass wasn’t entirely in focus, but hey, it rarely is at shows where setup only begins in the afternoon of the day before the show begins.
BennyAudio is the offspring of Tomasz Framielczyk, to whom I apologize if I’ve failed to correctly spell his surname. Originally an IT specialist, Framielczyk spent eight years focusing on speed stability and vibration control before issuing his first turntable five and a half years ago.
The turntable’s sound derives from its platter, which has stainless steel inside as well as stainless steel and POM plastic on the outside. BennyAudio claims that its cartridge-friendly, quick and rigid unipivot arm is so stable that it has no issues with azimuth, and no resonances between 20Hz and 20kHz. “Everything is designed to work together,” Framielczyk told me.
