Question for you sub guru's
I have a 12 by 14 den that is half used as a working office and half as my relaxing room (interpreted as music and reading). Question: Can a sub be placed behind one of the speakers quite close to the wall. If it measured no more than 12 by 16 I could just manage it. The desk, file cabinet, bookshelves, a 30 inch T.V , entertainment center, and tw9o chairs with atable lamp limit my options.
Hi, I was wondering if someone could 'define' an acceptable level of surface noise when listening to a vinyl recording LOUD. Its very audible on my system and I was wondering if there was something in the setup/type of cartridge that may be contributing (I've already cleaned my records).
BONUS: colored vinyl seems to have a noisier floor than black vinyl, I always wondered why this is. Anyone got the answer??
Thanks so much guys,
Andy
Hi, I use an average Sony ES power amp, and it sounds SO sweet when I push it wide open w/ my vinyl recordings (CD sources tend to sound worse after a certain threshold). Can someone explain this phenomenon, and how a solid state handles it differently than a tube circuit?
Any thoughtful comments would be greatly appreciated.
I've been noticing that one of the many recurring themes on the this forum seems to be about how best to use a computer to archive one's music collection into some digital format. I believe that this type of question is one which lends itself rather well to discussion on an open forum like this one.
There are so many factors to take into account and several different methods of finding a workable solution, all with positive and negative sides to them, that only by having everyone's ideas and opinions heard can one make some kind of intelligent decision on how best to proceed.
I am currently on a lookout for new amp and speakers. Room is 28m2 and I listen to everything from soft jazz to loud rock.
From all that I've read, Primare i30 sounds like a good choice. Unfortunately, they are currently unavailable for inspection at the local dealership.
In the meantime I've heard Bryston B60 + PMC GB1. Loved the sound, especially GB1 bass. Maybe I should have pushed the amp harder because 60W may be too little for 87 db/W/m speakers. Then again, dealer's room was smaller than my own.
