I'm in the market for a new preamp and cd player and have auditioned quite a bit of gear from different manufacturers. One set up that recently caught my attention was ARC's new hybrid LS26 preamp and their CD3 MKII cd player. I noticed that Stereophile doesn't review many of their products at all, and I'm starting to wonder why, it just seems very odd that a company with such a big following as ARC's doesn't get many of their products reviewed by Stereophile.
Right now I have my stereo sitting on a table in my dorm room here at school. My stereo takes up the back part of the table. My bookshelf speakers (Monitor Bronze B2) are at the edges of the table, with my equipment in between.
I used to have the speakers sitting directly on top of the table, but that caused the table top to resonate when music was played at certain frequencies. This caused a significant reduction in sound quality.
Well, John, if you haven't laid the DBT debate issues to rest with this month's "As We See It", I don't know what more can be done. Gotta be your best shot yet especially in a literary sense. Again, my sympathies to the reviewers who forsake the pleasures of normal listening for the critical listening required to do their jobs.
So if I replace my Cyrus what should I be looking at ? The Unison CD is one that I've heard great things about, and an Arcam has been suggested, and maybe Musical Fidelity A5 ? I want something that sounds as close to vinyl as possible.
Maybe I need to ditch my NAIM amps and go for valves ?
Having said all that I got the amazing Ashkenazy / Decca recording of the Rachy Symphonic Dances at the weekend, and the recording really showed off the Cyrus.
Is this a good turntable? Worth $160 in good condition?
