Nonesuch Donates $1 Million to Katrina Relief

On August 29, Nonesuch Records gave its first donation of $1 million to Habitat for Humanity International. The funds, raised in only eight months through sales of 150,000 copies of Nonesuch's superb benefit album Our New Orleans 2005, will be used to build homes for displaced musicians and others in the New Orleans Habitat Musicians' Village, whose centerpiece will be the Ellis Marsalis Center for Music.

New Scott Hamilton "Nocturnes & Seranades"

Forums

I can't stop spinning this one. Perhaps his best ever. Scott really cuts loose and puts some soul into these tunes. Paul Pearce (piano) and Dave Green (bass) get a fair amount of time to add their touch which really mixes things up nicely. Ben Webster fans take note, this is a must have. On the Concord label the recording is first rate as usual. Highly recommended.

Dear Readers, as a life long audiophile and music lover that cares for this great hobby it is time for me to speak up.

Reading through the great cable debate on this forum and others I have found time and time again well spoken contributers that continue to post psuedo scientific cable nonsense to promote the value of severily over priced interconnects and speaker wires.

SACD player advice needed...

Would really appreciate some advice on purchasing a new or used SACD player. There are so many models and features out there that I am getting dizzy in my research. I am not well-versed in the area, and don't want to end up with somthing that is over-hyped and under-performing. Budget is $500. Cosidering a universal player that has DVD, DVD-A & SACD capacty, but can go SACD-only (most important). Must also be multi-channel to fit a 5.1 system. I would lean toward higher-end used gear of 1-3 years.

What do you use as a reference for "good" sound?

Since all of the music I listen to is performed live through mics, mixers, amps, speakers and all sorts of processing, how do I try to reference a home system to a live system? Quite often my system sounds better than the live concerts that I attend. How can you access soundstage, musician placement and such when all of the performance is played through two sets of speakers, one on each side of the stage? The music you are listening to is recorded through solid state equipment, but now sounds better played back through tube equipment.

Just how good was the Infiniti Studio on Wheels??

Stereophile did a write up on the Infiniti Bose Studio on Wheels. I have a few questions for Wes Phillips who listened to the system.

1.It sounds like the Bose engineer John Feng is an audiophile,on some other forum he mentioned owning Aerial Acoustics speakers, did he come across as an audiophile? (How many more closet audiophiles work for Bose...hmmm)

2.How did the sound system compare to say the Mark Levenson in Lexus(yes I know its the same speakers as HarmonKardon's other systems)or Audi's B&O system?

3.Wes,how would you rate the system overall?
