Hi,
This is my first post here. Hopefully no one's snobby enough to make fun of me for not owning a $4000 Sumiko or something. Anyway. I have an Ortofon OM-10 that was purchased a long time ago--given to me as a gift--I can't return it to the store or anything. It was bought new + never opened, then sat for a long time 'til I opened it. Anyway, it sounds great--but only out of one channel. I was frustrated 'cause I set up the proper alignment painstakingly, only to find it only plays out of the right speaker! This is on a fairly new turntable--it's not like the connectors are filthy or anything. What's weird is, I tried it on a different turntable (I own like 5)...and it played FINE! Out of both channels! So, I thought it was a fluke deal. I removed it + painstakingly replaced it on the original turntable. Same thing--one channel. So I thought maybe the headshell was defective. I switched it with an identical headshell--still, only one channel. Tried numerous combinations of this routine. For some reason it worked properly one time. I tried installing it again on the turntable that previously worked--now it only played one channel! Aaaaahhhh! I know this isn't the best cartridge known to man, but still...it's a $100 cartridge, and I really don't want to replace it. Any ideas would be most appreciated! Thank you.
